About Us

The Sedgefield Academy of Excellence – with the vision to be a dynamic, future focused, innovative, respected institution which inspires a passion for learning

What We're All About

Sedgefield Academy of Excellence is a Home School Tutor Centre catering for learners from Grade-1 to Grade-12

We are not a school, we are a support centre for home-schooled children

The academy is under the ownership of Marcia Caldecott and Richard Barthus and is the third educational facility that they have set up, the other two being in Kwazulu Natal.
Marcia is a qualified educator who majored in English and Learners with special education needs (LSEN).
Marcia is SACE registered and has 20 years of teaching experience. She has taught in both private and public schools and has taught all the grades during her teaching career.

They recognized a need for this support system in this area when they made enquiries via ‘Sedge locals’ and other social media platforms. The dual medium academy, situated in Sedgefield at 26 Main Street in the Waterstone Junction, on the first floor in Units 1 and 2. Standing at the Spar and looking in the direction of Pick & Pay, you will see stairs going to the first floor. It is there where you will find us.

The couple and their two young girls fell in love with Sedgefield, and are determined to add value to the community.

Richard, who handles the general admin, invigilating and the day-to-day running of the academy, is already a proud volunteer with both the neighbourhood watch and the Fire Rangers.

Our Vision

Who We Are

Sedgefield Academy of Excellence - a new educational feather in the village's cap

The Sedgefield Academy of Excellence – with the vision to be a dynamic, future focused, innovative, respected institution which inspires a passion for learning.
Children may register as full time or casual learners. Extra lessons can be organized in a particular subject for individuals or even small groups.

It’s all about giving children the individual, one-on-one attention they need, so that they do not get ‘left behind’ in their learning.

The academy’s purpose is to support local parents in educating their home-schooled children and offer homework guidance and extra lessons to the community at large.
The academy is registered with IMPAQ but handles all the curriculums associated with home-schooling from Grade-1 to Grade-12.

SAE is a Centre that will be bringing about change in society by educating the learners about different aspects of everyday life and will not only be focusing on the basic curriculum.

Learners will be taught values, morals, responsibility, self-love and self-acceptance as well as a variety of skills that are not available in other Centres/Schools.
